Playing for dance classes, whether ballet or modern, can be one of the most fulfilling ways to work as a pianist - or one of the most frustrating. Most of the required skills are not part of a traditional musical training, and trying to learn it 'on the job', in an environment as peculiar as that of a dance studio, can be an uphill battle.
For this reason, Miro Magloire recently started to offer one-on-one training and coaching to accompanists. If interested, please contact Miro via email.
In addition to individual training, workshops are also available, either single-day or multi-session. They are geared towards musicians who are already working as accompanists and wish to improve their understanding of the craft or clarify certain issues. The workshops are very practically oriented and refer directly to the classroom situation.
Some of the topics covered in both the individual coaching and the workshops include choice of music, phrasing, rhythm, and how to use all of these to give the right support to an exercise; movement quality; beginnings and endings; sound quality, energy and class dynamic; communication with teachers.
Any training will be adapted to the individual level and experience of the participating accompanists.
If interested, please email Miro Magloire for more information.
